While Secret Romance may be one of the newer slot machines from Microgaming, it is very quickly gained in popularity. While the theme may not necessarily be the greatest theme in the world, the game does offer some of the most fun that we have had in ages.
How to Play Secret Romance Slot
Secret Romance Slot was first launched in February 2017. Whilst we reviewed this slot at that time, we do re-visit our slot machine reviews from time to time to make sure they still are the best ones to play.
That being said, it's no secret that Secret romance slot is not one of new slots to launch recently it's worth pointing out that it is worth playing - especially if you love Microgaming slots - a little more on that "classic" side of things. If so, then this game is for you.
Secret Romance is a 5 reel, 15 payline slot machine. It is medium volatility with a house edge of about 4%. The minimum bet on this slot is 15p. The maximum is £15.
As you can probably guess from the name, the theme of this game is romance. It was launched in February, so we have no doubt it was released to coincide with Valentine’s Day. The problem is; most people do not want to play a slot machine which is themed around love.
There are surely some people out there that do, but most do not. That being said, we can’t help but think that the images in the game do look good. They are certainly some of the better ones right now. However, we fear that this game is going to be very niche for most of the year. It is likely that online casinos will give it a push around Valentine’s Day, but that is about as far as they are going to go in that regard, which is a massive shame.
As this is a Microgaming slot machine, the gameplay is going to be simple. Many of the games that slot companies are releasing nowadays seem to be very much geared towards the newer crowd. This is, mainly, in a bid to draw people into the world of online casinos. We must say, it works. There are a few nifty features in this game. These serve as a great launchpad for more complicated slot machines. This one is highly recommended for experienced players too.

There are several different features that you will find in this slot machine. This includes:
- Wilds: They act as a substitute for all symbols in the game bar the scatter. This is very much standard slot machine stuff.
- Scatters: This will trigger your free spins mode. More on that soon.
- Mystery Symbols: these can appear on every spin. They are stacked symbols. They take the form of ‘love letters’. When the spin concludes, all of the love letters will open up at the same time to reveal the same symbol. We did not win anywhere near as much as we wanted in the ‘base game’ with this, but it was great when it appeared in the free spins mode.
While we are talking about free spins, if you get 3 or more scatters on the reels, then you will unlock the free spins mode. Right away, you are going to be given 14 free spins. The major benefit is that during these free spins, those mystery symbols also have the potential to be a wild. These will be stacked up to 20 symbols high, so there is a high chance that you will get a win. In addition to this, more scatters will increase your multiplier during the free spins. It can be a maximum of 5x.
Secret Romance Mobile Slot Machine
One thing that Microgaming seems to do consistently well is the creation of mobile slot machines. Of course, the Secret Romance mobile slot machine is no exception to this rule. While it is not necessarily our favourite mobile slot in recent years, it is certainly up there. The simplistic graphics look great on smaller screens. Couple this with the overall ‘feel’ of the game when it comes to smoothness and you really do have a match made in heaven.
What Do We Think of Microgamings Secret Romance Slot?
While we are not massive fans of the theme of this game, there is no denying that there is a lot of fun to be had. We feel that this is a game that is probably going to be more suited to those who want something ‘thematic’ around Valentine’s Day, which has long since gone at the time of this review.
